Decorating homes in Whitley Bay
Whitley Bay grew as a seaside resort in the late Victorian and Edwardian era, and much of its character comes from that period. Long streets of terraced houses and Tyneside flats run back from the seafront, many with bay windows, decorative cornicing, tiled hallways and panelled doors. The restored Spanish City dome is the town's best-known landmark, and St Mary's Lighthouse sits just to the north. Monkseaton and the western parts of town add inter-war semis, bungalows and later family homes.
Period properties reward careful interior work. High ceilings, picture rails and original mouldings call for neat cutting-in and patience, and woodwork often carries many layers of old gloss that may need sanding or stripping to bring back the detail. Our interior decorating service is well suited to this. Many larger houses have been converted into flats, and stairwells in these buildings can be tall and awkward, needing proper access equipment.
The North Sea is the biggest factor outside. Salt-laden air, strong onshore winds and driving rain wear down exterior paintwork faster than inland, particularly on seafront roads. Windows, doors, railings and painted render all need thorough preparation, including washing off salt deposits, before repainting. Our exterior painting uses durable systems suited to coastal conditions, and we plan the work for calmer, drier months.
Whitley Bay also has a busy rental market, with flats and houses let to young professionals and families. Landlords often need quick, hard-wearing refreshes between tenancies, and we can plan work around move-out and move-in dates.
