Decorating homes in Gosforth
Gosforth is one of Newcastle's most popular residential suburbs, with a busy High Street, Gosforth Central Park and Newcastle Racecourse at Gosforth Park on its northern edge. The housing is varied. Close to the High Street, streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces and Tyneside flats predominate. Areas such as South Gosforth, West Gosforth and the streets around the Grove include larger semi-detached and detached houses, many from the early twentieth century and the 1930s. Further north, there are postwar homes and newer developments, and parts of Gosforth fall within conservation areas.
Period houses here often have features that deserve careful handling. Cornices and ceiling roses can be clogged with decades of paint, and sash windows can stick if paint is applied carelessly. Panelled doors, deep skirting and staircase spindles take time to prepare and paint properly. Many owners also want heritage colours and finishes that suit the age of the property. Our interior decorating service is well suited to these homes, with time taken over the details.
Tyneside flats, with their separate upstairs and downstairs front doors, are common here and are often owned or let separately. Shared entrances, stairways and external woodwork can need coordinating between owners, and we are happy to work with both parties.
Outside, Gosforth's older homes typically have timber sash or bay windows, painted render or stone details, and front doors with decorative glazing. Timber that has been neglected can rot surprisingly quickly in the North East climate, so regular repainting is worthwhile. Our exterior painting includes careful preparation of windows, doors, bays and fascias.
