What our interior painting covers
Most interior jobs involve more than walls. A room looks finished when the ceiling is bright, the woodwork is crisp and the lines between surfaces are straight. We paint all of these as one job, in the right order, so there is no overspray on fresh gloss or scuffed walls from sanding doors afterwards.
- Walls: plaster, lining paper and previously painted surfaces, see our interior wall painting page for detail on preparation and sheen levels.
- Ceilings: including stained, cracked or textured ceilings, covered in depth on our ceiling painting page.
- Woodwork: doors, skirting, architraves, banisters and window boards.
- Halls, stairs and landings: often the hardest areas to reach and the most heavily used.
Preparation comes first
A good finish depends on what happens before the paint tin is opened. We start by moving or covering furniture, laying dust sheets and masking switches, sockets and fittings. Surfaces are then washed where needed, cracks and holes are filled and sanded, and flaking paint is scraped back.
Bare or newly plastered walls receive a diluted mist coat so the topcoats bond properly. Stains from old leaks or smoke are sealed with a suitable primer so they do not bleed through. Woodwork is lightly sanded to give the new coat something to grip. This stage is not glamorous, but it is the difference between paint that looks good for a few weeks and paint that lasts.
Choosing paints and finishes
Different rooms need different paints. A matt emulsion hides small imperfections and suits living rooms and bedrooms. Kitchens, bathrooms and busy hallways benefit from tougher, wipeable finishes that cope with steam, splashes and fingerprints. Ceilings usually look best in a flat finish, while woodwork can be eggshell, satin or gloss depending on the look you want.
We are happy to talk through the options and recommend products suited to each room. If you would like more help planning a colour scheme, our interior decorating service focuses on exactly that.

A local decorator for Newcastle homes
Newcastle has a wide mix of housing, from Victorian and Edwardian terraces with high ceilings and decorative cornices to inter-war semis and modern estates. Each brings its own challenges, such as older lime plaster, uneven walls or large expanses of new plasterboard. Being based in Westerhope, we work across the city and the towns within roughly 25 miles, and we understand the properties we are asked to paint.
We respect your home, keep work areas tidy and leave each room clean at the end of the day. To arrange a visit, get in touch or browse our gallery for examples of finished rooms.
