Decorating homes in Wallsend
Wallsend takes its name from the eastern end of Hadrian's Wall, and the remains of the Roman fort of Segedunum can still be seen beside the river. The town grew around shipbuilding and engineering, with famous yards such as Swan Hunter on the Tyne, and its housing reflects that history. Near the centre and the river you will find Tyneside flats and terraces, while estates such as Battle Hill, Holy Cross and Rosehill were built through the twentieth century, and newer developments have since appeared on former industrial land.
Tyneside flats and terraces often have tall ceilings, narrow stairs and plaster that has been patched many times. Woodchip and old wallpaper are still common, and removing them is often the first step. We fill, sand and seal walls so the new finish looks smooth and lasts. Many of these homes are rented, and landlords usually prefer durable neutral finishes. Our rental decorating is planned around tenancy changeovers.
Family homes on the estates are usually decorated a few rooms at a time, with hallways, stairs and kitchens needing tougher, washable finishes. Satin or gloss on skirting and banisters stands up well to daily wear. Newer houses bring different jobs, such as filling settlement cracks and replacing thin builder's paint with something more durable and personal.
Close to the river, damp air and blustery weather wear down exterior paint, particularly on sills, doors and fascias. Render can chalk and crack over time. Our masonry painting includes cleaning, repairs and suitable coatings, with exterior work planned for dry spells so the paint can cure properly.
