Decorating homes in Shiremoor
Shiremoor's roots lie in coal mining, and some of the older housing near the centre still reflects that heritage, with brick terraces and former colliery homes. Through the twentieth century the area grew with council and private housing, including interwar and post-war semis. More recently, significant new developments have been built around Northumberland Park and the edges of Shiremoor, bringing modern family homes and apartments within easy reach of the Metro and the A19. Many of these are now due their first full redecoration.
Each type of home brings different decorating needs. Older terraces can have cracked ceilings, uneven plaster and woodwork with many layers of paint, so careful preparation is essential. Post-war semis often benefit from a modern colour scheme, fresh woodwork and updated finishes in kitchens and bathrooms. Newer homes need fresh plaster sealing with a mist coat, and settlement cracks filled properly once the building has dried out. Our room painting services cover walls, ceilings and woodwork, leaving each space smooth, even and ready to use.
Shiremoor is only a couple of miles from the coast at Whitley Bay, so wind and rain coming off the sea can be hard on exterior surfaces. Window frames, doors, fascias, garage doors and fences show wear more quickly in exposed spots. We clean, scrape and prime before applying durable coatings, and our garden painting service covers fences, sheds and decking, which often need attention alongside the house. We are happy to advise on colours and finishes that suit both older properties and new builds in the area.
