Decorating homes in Blyth
Blyth grew as a port shipping coal from the Northumberland pits, and later as a shipbuilding town. Its older streets near the town centre and around Waterloo Road are lined with Victorian and Edwardian brick terraces, many now family homes or rented properties. Cowpen, Newsham, Croft and Isabella have large amounts of interwar and postwar council-built housing, while the areas towards South Beach and Links Road have seen substantial newer development. Ridley Park and the long beach with its colourful beach huts are well-loved parts of town, and the wind turbines offshore are a reminder of how breezy the coast can be.
Those turbines are there for a reason, and the same wind matters for decorating. Homes close to the beach and harbour get salt spray and grit blown against windows, doors and walls, while even properties further inland see more weather than those in central Newcastle. Exterior paint that is not properly bonded soon flakes, and bare timber quickly turns grey and starts to split. Before any painting, we wash down, scrape off loose material, fill and prime. Our exterior painting service covers render, brick, window frames, doors and fascias.
Inside the older terraces, high ceilings, picture rails and original or replacement cornices often survive, along with plaster that has been patched many times. Fine cracks, uneven walls and tired woodwork are common, and careful preparation makes all the difference to the finished look. For a full refresh, our house painting service can take on whole homes room by room.
Blyth also has plenty of private rented housing. We are happy to help landlords freshen up properties between tenants with durable, easy-clean finishes.
